Manuscript Critique

Rate is $50 an hour with a 2-hour minimum.

A manuscript critique is an affordable choice for authors who want a professional’s insights about what’s working in a story and what’s not. My critiques are far more advanced than a beta read but not as comprehensive as a full developmental edit.

After a manuscript evaluation, I will craft a 2- to 4-page critique letter that focuses on pacing, plot, character development, credibility, point of view, dialogue, and interior monologue. The letter points out strengths and weaknesses in your manuscript with emphasis on areas that need improvement to advance your manuscript to the editing stage.

The scope of this service does not include additional work after the critique has been returned, including follow-up communication or coaching. This can be billed separately at my hourly rate of $50.

Book Blurb, Book Synopsis, and Book Proposal Services

Rate is $50 an hour

A compelling book blurb is critical for attracting reader and literary agent attention. If you are seeking traditional publication, a persuasive book synopsis and book proposal will be key requirements for agents and publishers. That’s why it’s so important to hire a professional with a book marketing, copywriting, and editing background.

Editing and writing your book blurb, synopsis, or proposal requires much more than copyediting skill. I combine my many years of copywriting experience with my editing talent to enhance your existing book blurb, book synopsis, and book proposal or create new ones.

If I am writing from scratch and I have not previously worked on your book, a reading fee is required unless you can provide me with a synopsis of your story.

Writing Coaching and Creative Brainstorming

Rate is $50 an hour by phone, email, Skype, FaceTime, or Google Hangouts.

Need a writing coach who will guide you during the early stages of writing your book? Looking for creative brainstorming to help you come up with titles of your book or series? Writing coaching and creative brainstorming can be booked in 1-hour increments and we can work together by phone or via Skype, FaceTime, or Google Hangouts.

A 5-Hour Coaching Package can be added on to other editing services if you’d like to run your revisions past me or bounce around ideas after you’ve incorporated my edits. Many newer authors find this helpful if they’ve opted to make bigger revisions after the edit.

Rate begins at 0.0085 per word

Proofreading is the last stage of the editing process and should be scheduled after copyediting. I only accept manuscripts for proofreading if they’ve been copyedited first. During a proofread, I’ll check your manuscript for typos, incorrect word usage, minor grammar issues, and style issues. Proofreading is performed in Microsoft Word with Track Changes only. Additional work after proofreading is complete, including follow-up communication, is billed separately.
